About this cover

NIC provides a suite of Bond Insurance (guarantee) products designed to safeguard contractual and financial obligations. Historically, these services have been provided by banks, but NIC now offers them as part of its guarantee portfolio.

Types of Bonds Offered:

  1. Performance Bond: Ensures the contractor or supplier fulfills contractual obligations, such as completing a building, road, or other project.
  2. Advance Payment Bond: Guarantees repayment of funds advanced at the start of a contract if the contractor fails to deliver as agreed.
  3. Bid/Proposal Bond: Supports contractors or suppliers in bidding processes by ensuring that, if selected, they will enter into the contract under their bid terms.
  4. Shares Indemnification Bond: Provides a guarantee to protect investors or purchasers in share transactions against financial loss.
  5. Customs Bond: Ensures compliance with customs obligations, such as duties and taxes, typically required when importing goods. Customs Bonds, also known as Government Bonds, are financial guarantees required to ensure compliance with customs regulations. These bonds are typically issued in connection with the import, warehousing, or export of goods.

Types of Customs Bonds:

  • CB3 – Bond for Warehousing or Removal of Warehoused Goods: Guarantees the payment of duties and compliance with regulations for goods stored in bonded warehouses or removed therefrom.
  • CB4 – Bond for Exportation: Ensures that goods intended for export are properly declared and exported in accordance with customs laws.
  • CB6 – General Bond for the Security of Warehoused Goods: Provides general security for the duties and obligations related to goods held in bonded warehouses.

Key Features:

  • Guarantee, not an insurance policy: Serves as a financial guarantee from NIC to the obligee (e.g., client or project owner) that the principal (e.g., contractor or importer) will fulfill their contractual duties.
  • Risk-based premiums: Premiums are determined by the bond type, amount, and risk profile of the applicant.
  • Documentation requirements: Typically include a bond proposal form, contract award letter, agreement, audited financials, performance evidence, indemnities, and—where applicable customs or share indemnification documentation

Who It’s For:

  • Companies seeking to secure bid credibility or advance payments
